Have you ever wanted a physical indicator of what is going on with your Drupal site? Come to this BoF and learn how to build a small device that connects to your Drupal site that can tell you when something interesting happens.

I will demonstrate connecting an Arduino board to Drupal using both a USB and a network connection. The Arduino has 14 digital I/O pins and 6 analog input pins. 6 of the digital I/O pins can also be used for analog out. That makes the Arduino a very powerful hardware development platform.

So what can it do? It can control lights, including light emitting diodes (LEDs), 120V lamps, even every light in your home or office. It can control motors, stepper motors, solenoids, and text displays. It can use sensors to read light levels, distances, audio levels, accelerometers, and RFID tags. It can push data into Drupal. Drupal can push data into it.

Learn how a real world device can extend the reach of your website. Or just come to find out how many of these devices I was able to get past airport security. Either way it will be a fun discussion that will most certainly give you interesting ideas for augmenting your own site.
