I am a fairly well developed web developer with 12 years experience but have very close to no experience using Drupal. Our organization (a PS School) is moving to Drupal very soon under the direction of a contractor.

I was wondering if most of this conference is geared to Drupal guru's and will fly over my head - or - the conference is also good for Drupal newbies like me.

Your input would be appreciated!

Definately

Drupalcon is great for people of all levels of expertise. There are definitely going to be a number of sessions that you'll totally be lost in, but there are going to be plenty that are going to be right up your alley. Having a good grasp of programming, which you have, will be a big help, however, in my experience, the hardest part of the Drupal learning curve is learning to think in terms of Drupal. Drupal is a framework, and not a language, and there's a certain mindset on how things are done in Drupal that you kind of have to just absorb. I highly suggest going. It should be a great learning experience.

I appreciate your feedback - I assumed there would be some stuff over my head but I was hoping I would be able absorb the "Drupal Way". I will go prepare the budget and make my request to the Boss. Thanks!

Hi Andy,
I wanted to chime in on this too and say yes! As long as you know what to expect that is. DrupalCon isn't a training conference, but you will learn a heckuva lot.

As Michael mentioned, there will be some sessions targeted for newbies and some that will likely be over your head. We'll do our best to make that clear so you know which sessions to check out. One track in particular - the showcase track - will be geared for people less familiar with Drupal and will show off what you can do with the platform. There will also be some beginner and immediate level sessions in other tracks that focus on development. We're also hoping to offer a training event the day before the conference starts to offer a crash course in Drupal development, and we'll post more about that here once we work out the details.

Hope to see you in March!
