DivX
What does DivX do and how do you work with Drupal?
DivX, Inc. is a global digital media company that enables consumers to enjoy a high-quality video experience across any kind of device. DivX® technology efficiently compresses digital video while ensuring the maximum visual quality.
I am the Director of Web Properties for DivX, Inc. We use Drupal for 2 main initiatives, DivX.com and our Labs site (labs.divx.com). DivX.com is our primary channel of corporate communication for getting information about DivX into the hands of our partners and consumers and is the entry point for downloading DivX technology for use on your computer.
Labs is our development focused site primarily engaging the people who enjoy pushing technology, testing beta software and interacting in a global community of DivX fans.
How did you first get involved in Drupal development?
I used to work as a Lead Developer for Achieve Internet and started working on building out large-scale deployments and websites like mylifetime.com, sinatra.com, lime.com, blueshirtnation.com, etc. I quickly became engaged in the Drupal community and within one year had my first core patch accepted into Drupal 6.
What type of projects do you specialize in?
We use Drupal to quickly build out consumer facing sites that require a great deal of dynamic or maintainable content. Previously to using Drupal we had a homegrown CMS and often, basic changes like adding pages or content updates could take days and weeks to complete for something that should have been as simple as a content edit. With Drupal we are able to leverage the roles and permissions to allow content creators / editors to maintain the content and localization of our 5 core languages and the development team to focus on adding new features.
After installing Drupal on the labs site back in [2006] we were sold that Drupal was the platform for us to quickly deploy sites with low overhead and a small web team. DivX.com went live on Drupal January 5th, 2009.
What are you most looking forward to at DrupalCon DC?
The people! We all know that Drupal is nothing without the great community of designers, developers, information architects and others who continually strive to make Drupal better and better. Some of them are quite fun to sit around and chat over a couple pints with as well. ;)
