I was wondering about how to manage public transport in D.C. I found some information on the Washington Metro site, but I'm not sure which ticket to buy once I arrive at D.C. The first trip to the hotel I will pick a taxi, but later when I want to visit the city it would be very interesting to move around not only on my feet...

Which type of transportation is best-choice? Only buses, or also the railways? Which pass should I buy?
Is Washington having an underground railway network?
