Public Transportation in D.C.

Hi,

I was wondering about how to manage public transport in D.C. I found some information on the Washington Metro site, but I'm not sure which ticket to buy once I arrive at D.C. The first trip to the hotel I will pick a taxi, but later when I want to visit the city it would be very interesting to move around not only on my feet...

I'm coming to DrupalCon from Cleveland, Ohio.

Don't have a car, so I'll take greyhound if I can't find a ride, but I'd much rather kindred spirits for companions.

I can also get to Rochester, New York, first, if that'll make things work.

I'm happy to split gas and tolls.

Finding hotels in DC

With the economy in the tank and the Inauguration past, I'm starting to see some relative bargains in DC hotel prices, which normally average well over $200/night, even for 2 and 3 star places. Yesterday, I found rooms at the Washington Hilton (a four star hotel about 4 blocks up from DuPont Circle) for $159 + 14% tax (about half of its normal rate).

Problems booking a room at the District Hotel

Has anypody been able to make a reservation for a room at the District Hotel ( http://dc2009.drupalcon.org/news/15-discount-district-hotel-drupalcon-at... ) ??

The online reservation system does not accept the discount code and even when you try to book a room without a discount a message is displayed that says that the reservation system is not available.

Metro/Subway Parking - Need SmartTrip Card

A warning, parking in Metro parking lots requires a special card, called a SmartTrip card. You can't pay cash/cc or anything but this card. You can purchase them at any station (I think) and they can also be used to get on and off the trains. It will hold a set value and can be recharged. They are convenient.
